What are some of the benefits that are likely to come from my being in this study?
Although you may not have any direct benefit from being in this research study, many fathers enjoy the chance to talk about their involvement with their children. Participating in this research study may provide an opportunity to reflect on the relationship you have with your child. Knowledge gained from the study may help researchers better understand the experiences of fathers and may suggest ways to improve life for those parents and children. The mixture of many different points of view may lead to improved support for child healthcare.
Are there any risks or discomforts to being in this study?
There is no physical risk to you by being in this study.
Being in this study may make you feel emotionally upset or be uncomfortable answering some of the questions if they reflect issues that are difficult to talk about. You can stop the interview at any time, you can skip some of the questions or choose not to answer questions. You may stay in the study even if you skip some of the questions.
You may choose not to answer our questions or make comments at any time. If you need to take a break during the interview session you may do so. We will also be available to speak with you after the interview about concerns or questions you may have. You may also withdraw from the study at any time; your decision to withdraw from the study would not influence your clinical care or access to services in any way.
Are there any financial costs to being in this study?
No. There will be no costs to you for being in this study.
You will be paid $20.00 in the form of a gift card for completing the one-hour phone interview. You will be paid at the time of the interview or shortly after.
Only one gift card per household.

What about my confidentiality and privacy rights?
° All information will be kept confidential. Information about study participants will not be sold or distributed outside of Northwestern University.
° The purpose of the study is to best understand fathers involvement with children and their health
° We will erase any identifying information following the completion of the study.
° Recontact for further studies will not be administered unless you give us permission to recontact you.
° To ensure the confidentiality of our research participants, it is our policy that no information from the interview sessions will be shared by the research team with other study participants.
° The results of this study may be published or presented at scientific meetings. If your individual data are discussed, your identity will be protected by removing any identifying information.
